Futures Training and Literacy

To break away from the logic of climate fatalism, Toriba designs training programs grounded in Indigenous, Quilombola and Afro-diasporic knowledge. The free online course, held with Instituto Afrofuturo and led by Morena Mariah, brought together more than 400 live participants from all five regions of Brazil, as well as Argentina, Colombia and Mexico, and reaffirmed ancestral knowledge as a living technology for reimagining horizons of social and environmental justice.

Lesson 1:
Foundations of Countercoloniality and Afro-Pindoramic Practices

Lesson 2:
Challenges and Strategies for Transforming Climate Narratives

Immersive programs that put young people in the position of shaping the policies that affect them. In partnership with the International Youth Observatory, young people from different areas of Rio de Janeiro build desired scenarios for 2055 and concrete public policy proposals, which they present as pitches to a panel that simulates real decision-making spaces.

Toriba brings Futures Studies into the public university. In partnership with the School of Communication at UFRJ and the PEIC research group, we organize academic courses and short courses involving the creation of scenarios and narratives, and we develop research agendas and scientific papers at the intersection of the political economy of communication, democracy and futures.
